Dish Washing

Like any good blog dealing with adventures on the high (or in this case not so high) seas it seems fitting that from time to time we review useful equipment. The dishwasher, very handy. Not the most portable of items and therefore a dedicated support team will be required.

But what about the carbon footprint?

Comparing the efficiency of automatic dishwashers and hand-washing of dishes is difficult because hand-washing techniques vary drastically by individual. At least one privately funded, non-peer-reviewed study concludes that automatic dishwashers when fully loaded use less water than even the most efficient hand-washers, while relative energy use depends on hand-washing technique and number of place settings washed per load (a smaller load still favours hand washing)The study does not address costs associated with the manufacture and disposal of dishwashers or the cost of possible accelerated wear of dishes from the chemical harshness of dishwasher detergent. The Ditching of Dawkins.

If you look hard enough you may well spot a copy of The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins under the forward deck elastic. Shortly after this was taken I pitched it over board hoping for a visual catharsis to end the angst this book had caused me. Alas, no Kraken emerged from the deep to swallow the book and no maelstrom took it under either. Instead it bobbed about on the surface looking small, silly and insignificant. A quick prayer for Prof. Dawkins and some laughter and we paddled on.
the Boat by the way is a Sea Tech Rockhopper RH430, a fantastic, stable boat that is impossible to paddle in a straight line without the skeg down.

Up the Creek.

Q. Is it possible to paddle to Corfe Castle?
A. No, at least not by this route.
